Updates on Artistic Research Projects on/with Food
This autumn brings forward a new phase in three ongoing artistic research projects dedicated to food as medium, food in art, food as art. Each has been underway for some time, and the coming months will make them more visible through public presentations, workshops, and the launch of new works.
Research project on Food Gestures
This project is also the central theme of my PhD research. It begins in November with in-site and on-site observations at the bakery where I work, looking closely at everyday gestures of making, preparing, and sharing food. Later, in summer 2026, the research will extend into private spaces, exploring how alimentary gestures unfold in domestic life. The project brings together people from Ecole de Recherche Graphique, professional and non-professional artists, students, and community members. The approach is grounded in conversation and collaboration, and animating a living body of shared knowledge around food gestures.
CofetARia
CofetARia is a shared artistic research project that changes its protocol each time it is performed. A performance is scheduled for the 13th of December at the Food Museum in Brussels. The project evolves around the question of how can we be happy during past/present/future totalitarianist regimes? Cakes, toys, celebrating, candy, songs, puppets, drawings, baking books or photographs. CofetARia reinvents formats to engage with memory, play, and resilience. Two iterentios of CofetARia will engage with students from the Fra Angelico high school in Evere in November and December, leading up to the public performance at the Food Museum.
Taste as Text
Taste an extension of the medium Text. “Babellecker” is a series of chocolate tablets that retraces the big and small history of visiting places that marked the gastronomic heritage of Brussels. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Brigade and experiments with chocolate tablets as carriers of narrative taste.
